A prong collar is a pretty odd-looking device. It resembles something you’d expect to see in a horror movie. Despite its graceless appearance, pinch collars are safe and efficient when used properly.

A prong collar pinches dog’s neck with its prongs when a dog pulls or when the owner tightens a leash to put its action with an intention to stop a dog doing somethign wrong. This way of action resembles the way a mother dog does with her puppies. It does NOT damage the trachea when properly used.

No matter how you treat this gear, a dog pinch collar is NOT to be used for young puppies under 6 months old.

A prong collar is to be worn in a specific manner to be safe and efficient in training and behavior correction. A prong collar should be placed right behind the ears and under the jaw. Placing the collar lower will not provide the training action. The collar should fit properly without moving around from the proper place. If the collar is loose adjust it by removing the excessive prongs.

Measure the neck size of your dog behind the ears and under the jaw. When you choose a prong collar, tske into account, that two fingers should slip between the collar and the dog's neck. Thus it should be sbout 3 inches larges than the dog's neck.

NEVER EVER take a pinch collar slipping over your dog’s head unfastened. Release the links or a buckle if there is any and take it at the right place (under the jaws) unfastened, then fasten the links or a buckle.

Make sure that prongs are not twisted.

A prong collar should be placed on a dog's neck with the chain and rings that are attached to a leash right behind dog's ears.
